This is one part of the full notice. The imprint, the AI Act disclosure, the compliance posture and how to report a problem are on the legal page.

Novo Lab retrieves published literature, grades the strength of the evidence behind a claim and shows the citations. It is made for licensed healthcare professionals and for the organisations that employ them. It is not made for patients or for the public.
- It does not diagnose, does not recommend a treatment for an individual patient and does not decide dosing.
- It is not for emergency or time-critical care.
- It abstains when the retrieved evidence is too thin to answer, and says so rather than guessing.
- Every answer carries its sources. The clinician checks them, applies local guidelines and professional rules, and remains responsible for the decision.
Medical device status: under Regulation (EU) 2017/745 (MDR) software is qualified by its intended purpose, as set out in MDCG 2019-11 rev. 1 of June 2025. The intended purpose above is evidence retrieval and evidence appraisal, not an individual-patient diagnostic or therapeutic purpose, so the service is not placed on the market as a medical device and carries no CE mark. If a future feature states an individual-patient purpose, it is assessed again and the conformity route is completed before that claim is made. Nothing on this site is advertising for a medicinal product or a medical device within the meaning of the German Heilmittelwerbegesetz (HWG).
Terms of use
These terms govern access to the Novo Lab site, portal and API between Novo Lab and the organisation or professional using them. They are addressed to businesses and professionals, not consumers. Your own general terms do not apply unless we accept them in writing.
- Who may use it
- Licensed healthcare professionals, and the organisations that employ them, acting in a professional capacity. You must be 18 or older to use the service or the app. You keep your credentials to yourself, you are responsible for what happens under your account or API key, and you tell us at once if either is exposed.
- What you may not do
- Upload direct patient identifiers such as names, addresses or insurance numbers. Use the service for emergency care or for any decision that has to be made faster than a source can be read. Present an answer to a patient as a diagnosis or a prescription. Re-identify anyone. Scrape, resell or redistribute the corpus. Reverse engineer the service, evade rate limits, or use outputs to train a competing model.
- Processing agreement
- Before any feature that carries patient-related content is used, an agreement under Article 28 GDPR is concluded. Without it, that content must not be sent.
- Availability
- We keep the service running and announce planned maintenance where we can, but no availability level is owed unless a plan says so in writing. Free and trial access carries no availability commitment.
- Fees and term
- Prices, billing period and volume follow the plan you signed up for. Plans run for the stated period and can be ended to its end. We can suspend an account for non-payment or for a use listed above, after notice where the situation allows.
- Rights in the work
- The software, the graded corpus and the interface stay ours. What you send us stays yours, and you give us only the licence needed to run the service for you. Answers may be used freely for your professional work. Underlying sources keep their own licences and their own terms.
- Liability
- We are liable without limit for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, under the Product Liability Act, and where we gave a guarantee. For slight negligence we are liable only for breach of an obligation whose fulfilment makes performance of the contract possible in the first place and on which you may rely, and then only for the damage typical for such a contract and foreseeable at its conclusion. We are not liable for a clinical decision taken on the basis of an answer. The service supports judgment and does not replace it.
- Changes
- We may change these terms for good reason, for example a change in the law or in the service. You are told at least thirty days in advance by email or on this page, and you may end the contract before the change takes effect.
- Law and venue
- German law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. Where you are a merchant, a legal person under public law or a special fund under public law, the courts of Berlin have jurisdiction. Mandatory protective rules of your own country stay untouched.
